

Born June 21, 1931 in Springfield to John Elmer and Alice Clara (DesCarpenter) McAtee, he married Maryann Taylor on August 2, 1953 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Sgt. Rob (Kathy) McAtee of Pekin; one daughter, Debra A. (Joseph) Bubonic of Pleasant Plains; eight grandchildren, JoAnn Bubonic of Springfield, Elizabeth (Tim) Olson of Frisco, Texas; First Lt. Nathan (Brenda) Bubonic with the U.S. Air Force in Enid, Oklahoma, Jason Bubonic of Dallas, Texas, Amanda Bubonic, Stephanie Bubonic, both of Pleasant Plains, Ryan McAtee and Caitlin McAtee, both of Groveland; two great-grandchildren, Spencer Olson and Evan Olson and one brother, J. Robert "Bob" (Patricia) McAtee of Peoria.
His parents preceded him in death.
He was a US Air Force veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
Don retired in 1990 from the Pekin Police Department as Captain of the Patrol Division with 25 years of service. He previously worked 13 years for the United States Postal Service in Pekin.
He was a life and 53 year member of Empire Lodge 126, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons in Pekin. Don also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 105 in Pekin.
He enjoyed reading, woodworking, hunting and fishing. Don will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
A member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pekin, he was a former member of the Canyon Ridge Baptist Church in Las Vegas.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2007 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Michael McLeod will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at the funeral home. Law enforcement honors will be provided by the Pekin Police Department Honor Guard. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to the Pekin Police Foundation, 111 South Capitol Street, Pekin, IL 61554.
