

Born July 5, 1927 in Pleasant Plains to Gamblin and Verda (Denney) Smith, she married Alvin Hamm on April 13, 1946 in Jacksonville. He died June 5, 1994 in Pekin. She later married Richard L. Parker, Sr. on May 3, 2003 in Pekin. He died January 22, 2013 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Camelia Sue Hackney; two brothers, Wendell Smith and Sherell Smith and four sisters, Ova Hughes, Dorothy Morris, Christine Churchill and Betty Lou Elmore.
Surviving are two sons, Stewart (Debbie) Hamm and Russ (Christal) Hamm, both of Pekin; two daughters, Linda Holmes and Charlene (Terry) Harbers, both of Pekin; one step-son, Richard L. Parker, Jr. of Bloomington; one step-daughter, Kathee (Dick) Hayes of Pekin; twelve grandchildren; four step grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren.
Edith owned and operated Trademart Furniture in downtown Pekin with her first husband for 18 years. The furniture store continues today and is known as Hamm’s Furniture. She previously worked at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville as a nurse’s aide, then for Schipper & Block and later at Fredman Bros. Furniture Company, both in Pekin.
She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan and enjoyed playing the organ. Edith was a great cook and always enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for her family. One of her biggest loves, was being with her grandchildren.
She attended Normandale Reformed Church in Pekin.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor David Craig will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin.
