

Born October 22, 1926 in Chicago, he was the son of Karl "Charles" Hjalmar and Otilia Sophia (Johnson) Nelson. He married Katherine Belle Pulliam on August 3, 1946 in Magnolia. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Marge (Larry) Webster of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Boyce (Rick) Whitley of Pekin; one son, Dan (Pamela) Nelson of Pekin; six grandchildren, Karen Brewer, Marsha Webster, both of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Anna Webster of Seattle, Washington, Jamie (Ricky) Thomas of San Jose, Sarah (Kari) Adams of East Peoria and Mark (TeKara) Marion of Pekin and five great-grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.
Floyd worked in the gas department for the Central Illinois Light Company for 34 years in the Pekin District, retiring in 1983. He also owned and operated Nelson's Small Appliance Repair in Pekin. He was a retired member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Prior to moving to Pekin in 1967, Floyd was a 16 year member and former fire chief of the North Pekin Fire Department.
Floyd was a faithful member of the First Missionary Church in North Pekin, where he served on the church board for many years. He also was proud to have been a longtime cub master in North Pekin.
He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. He also enjoyed camping and fishing.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008at First Missionary Church in North Pekin. Pastor Tony Darr will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, and also one hour before the funeral Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
