

He was born September 25, 1933 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Harry and Agnes (Plaschko) Meyers.
He was preceded by his parents; his first wife, Barbara Meyers; one sister, Diane Carlier; three brothers, Harry, Claire and Jerry Meyers; one grandson, Bryan Fowler.
Surviving are his loving wife, Jeanine (Beasley, Barnes, Hattermann) Meyers, married May 4, 2000 in Pekin; three daughters, Yvonne (Fowler) Jerry Nottnagel, Terri ((Ackerman) Steele and Laurie Moreland; five grandchildren, Nick (Nicole), Elizabeth, Caroline Ackerman, Krystina Fowler, Garrett (Peyton) Moreland; six step-grandchildren, Rhett (Mary) Barnes, Tyler (Misty) Barnes, Chad (Nancy) Barnes, Darren (Tamra) Barnes, Danielle (Ben Fister) Barnes and Tara (Todd) Crowson; 13 great-grandchildren and one brother, Roger (Marie) Meyers.
He enrolled for two years in the United States Coast Guard. He then enlisted in the Unites States Navy at Lenmore Naval Base CA. After training, he became a U.S. Naval Exchange Officer. Lieut. Cmdr. Meyers of No. 78 Training Squadron, he trained RNZAF Skyhawk No. 75 Squadron where he spent two years at Ohakea Skyhawk Pilots.
His greatest accomplishment; Airwing Commander (CAG) on USS Kitty Hawk, Western Pacific where eight squadrons and 2500 people worked for CAG. Then deployed to Indian Ocean in response to the Iranian Government overthrow for nine plus months.
Fred graduated from Western Washington University.
Capt. Frederick Meyers, was in 1974- 1975 the Commanding Officer of Navy Attack Squadron 164 Ghost Riders, flying the A4F Skyhawk. He led the squadron through its pre-deployment training cycle and through its Western Pacific cruise, which included support of evacuation of Saigon, Vietnam and recovery of captured merchant ship SS Mayaguez. His command service ended when the squadron disestablished in late 1975. Capt. Meyers continued until his retirement in 1982. He received numerous medals and ribbons.
He loved his devoted wife, Jeanine (“I had the time of my life”). They traveled for hunting, fishing and then some fishing buddies (his cigar group), also niece, Shelly, John, Nikki VanderHayden and cousin, Denny.
They visited family, softball and golf and was leader of the Bob Hope Golf Classic, Humana.
His graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 20023 at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Pastor Simeon D. Raddatz will officiate. Military rites will be provided by the United States Navy and Tazewell Military Rites Team.
