

PEKIN ~ Hugh Oliver White, 79, of 444 South Parkway Drive, Apartment 401, passed away at 2 a.m. Thursday, January 25, 2007 at his home. He was formerly of 2408 Apple Street in Pekin.Born March 28, 1927 in Caruthersville, Missouri to Schley and Ora (Mann) White, he married Melva Pauline Lovvorn on July 30, 1950 in Farmington, Missouri. She survives.Also surviving are two daughters, Paula J. (Paul) Vehlow of Sherman and Janice L. White of Pekin; two grandchildren, Molinda A. (Michael) Scott of Champaign and David E. (Mandi) Vehlow of Saint Louis, Missouri; two brothers, Marshall (Juanita) White of Denver, Colorado and Ernest (JoAnn) White of Hayti, Missouri; and three sisters, Veedies Roberts of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Florence (Bob) Harris of Farmington, Missouri, and Betty Jo May of Saint Peters, Missouri.He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters.A United States Navy veteran of World War II, he served from July 17, 1945 to August 9, 1946.Hugh worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 38 years, retiring May 1, 1986 as a skilled trade's welder at building BB in East Peoria.He was a member of First Baptist Church in Pekin.Hugh enjoyed hunting and trout fishing.His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 29, 2007 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Pastor Mark D. Friday will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
