

Born October 28, 1937 in Springfield to John Dewey and Rachel Florence (Thompson) Hartnett, he married Joy Lynn Mahoney on October 10, 1959 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, James Michael (Mandy) Hartnett, Jr. of Creve Coeur; three daughters, Jamie Lynn (Don) Munter of Pekin, Mari Elizabeth (Doc) Halliday of Peoria and Teri Margaret (Dick) Cook of East Peoria; ten grandchildren, James Michael Hartnett, III, Joey Lynn Hauk, Kody Lee Hartnett, Abigail Joy Halliday, Ellen Margaret Cook, Rudy Donald Munter, Lucas Edward Munter, Gunnar Hartnett, Patrick Halliday and Casey Halliday and one great-grandson, James Michael Hartnett, IV.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Hillary Joy Halliday on July 17, 1992.
Mike had proudly served in the United States Marine Corps.
He owned and operated Michael Hartnett Concrete Construction with his son in Pekin. Mike founded the company more than 30 years ago.
He was of the Catholic faith.
An avid sports fan, his grandchildren meant the world to him. He graciously supported children's charities involving his grandchildren including the Children's Miracle Network, the Pekin Junior Football League, the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation and the Peoria Ballet.
His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2007at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Boys' and Girls' Club of Pekin, 1101 Veerman, Pekin, IL 61554.
