Jo Ann Berchtold

Born April 6, 1931 in Mt. Pulaski to Beryl Elwyn and Odessa June (Wright) Griffin, she married Robert Allen Berchtold on November 29, 1952 in Jefferson City, Missouri. He died April 19, 2012 in Green Valley. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jack Griffin and Carl Griffin and one sister, Mary Jean Larimore.

Jo Ann was a devoted mother to her daughter, Kathy (Mark) Hindman and her son, Robert (Roxanne) Berchtold. She cherished her role as a grandmother to Nicole (Allen) Putney, Brian Berchtold, Amber (Ryan) Darrow and Eric Hindman, and was a great-grandmother to nine beloved great-grandchildren. They all survive along with a half-sister, Janet Giffin of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Jo Ann worked at Caterpillar, Inc. for 10 years and at Tazewell Machine Works in Pekin for 27 years. In her free time, she found joy in painting, sewing, crocheting, and gambling. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Her fun-loving spirit and deep love for her family were evident to all who knew her.

She was of the Lutheran faith.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Chaplain Lauren Padgett will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral on Saturday. Burial will follow in Green Valley Cemetery.
