Born October 15, 1947 in Pekin to Paul and Catherine (Dooley) Holmes, he married Vicki Forsythe on April 4, 1970. She died October 17, 2020.
He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving is their son, Troy (Nicole) Holmes of Pekin; four grandchildren, Morgan (Tyler) Vicary of East Peoria, Luke Holmes of Alabama, Savannah Holmes and Veronica Holmes, both of Bartonville; one great-grandson, Carter Vicary; and his beloved dog, Molly.
John had worked on the factory line at Caterpillar Inc. for 35 years.
He enjoyed watching movies and playing video games, golfing, fishing, and bowling. Spending time with his grandchildren was very important to John.
John’s visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2025 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at the funeral home. Pastor Alvin Riley officiate. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
