Born May 16, 1951 in Pekin to Lester and Marie (Parkin) Vogel, he married Diane Crum on October 4, 1975. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Jacqueline Vogel of Denver, Colorado and Stephanie (Rishi) Bhula of Memphis, Tennessee; one grandchild on the way; two brothers, Kenneth Vogel and David Vogel; two sisters, Patricia (Bob Ort) Grady and Mary (Terry Holcomb) Vogel; and two beloved dogs, Mac and Auggie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lester (LeeAnn) Vogel; and one sister, Annette (Kurt) Rankin.
John owned and operated Vogel’s Metric Garage with his brother Kenny for many years. He then owned Import Auto Parts before working at Caterpillar Inc. for 20 years retiring in 2016.
Most recently, John worked at the Justice Center three days a week, where he met many old and new friends. He had to be busy and loved people. We truly believe he had a daily word quota, which I definitely needed help for him to fulfill. He had an infectious smile and attitude, which will be missed.
He loved helping his daughters, Jacqueline and Stephanie, grow up. They still remember corny jokes he told when they were young. He taught them well and they have become independent young ladies who aren’t afraid to tackle a task on their own, knowing now he will be looking down on them beaming with pride.
A gathering celebrating his life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tazewell Animal Protective Society, 100 Taps Lane, Pekin, Illinois 61554.
