

Peoria ~ JoLene Kay Bennett, 61, of Peoria, formerly of Pekin, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at her home. She was born on June 23, 1964, in Pekin, a daughter of Louis Shelton and Iris S. Scott.
When she was around eight years old, she chose to take the name Bennett, just like her mother and stepfather, Laurin V. "Lonnie" Bennett. A reflection of her deep love and connection to family.
JoLene is survived by her mother, Iris S. (Michael) Switzer of Glen Carbon; her sister, Candice Bennett of Locust Grove, Georgia; her brother, Joshua Shelton of Springfield; her grandfather, Don Maskel of Pekin; and several aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her father.
JoLene graduated from Pekin Community High School, Class of 1982. She continued her education at Illinois Central College before entering the United States Army. During her service, she pursued her nursing education and later worked in area hospitals and nursing homes, where she brought comfort and compassion to those in need.
She will be remembered for her humor, kindness, and creativity. JoLene will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
JoLene is now at peace.
JoLene's celebration of life gathering will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home in Pekin. There will be no service. Inurnment will take place in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
