Born August 1, 1941 in Pekin to Charles E. and Alene (Pickerel) Bailey.
Larry leaves behind four children, and three grandchildren, he loved very much. Two daughters, Shawnie Bailey, wife of Justin Bell, parents of Sierra Bell, Gracie Bell, and Marcus Bell of Cherbourg, France and daughter Amanda Bailey of Adelaide, Australia; Two sons, Jay Bailey and Jeffrey Bailey, both of Adelaide, Australia. Larry also leaves behind his sister Shirley Bailey of Oxnard, California and brother Captain James Bailey of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He also, leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Virginia Gensel and Pearlene Maas and one brother, Harold Bailey.
After high school, Larry joined the United States Air Force where he served his country as an Electronics Technician for four years and was honorably discharged.
Larry worked for the United States Government as a Satellite Shift Engineer, working with many companies such as Lockheed Martin and Boeing. This took him to many places including California, Greenland and also Woomera, Australia where he worked many years on top secret, high priority defense satellite systems. Larry had a very successful career working as a satellite engineer and was well known among defense satellite contractors as being one of the best. Because of his career, he was able to travel the world many times with his family.
Larry had a great sense of humor and always had a joke or remark that would make you laugh. He loved dogs and enjoyed visiting with them and giving them treats at the assisted living facility. Larry had a great love for music and would play the guitar and sing. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and could talk baseball with you all day.
His graveside service will be held at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 10 a.m.
Cremation rites will be accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
