Sonny was born on February 10, 1948, in Peoria to Leon Lawrence and Dorotha (Scales) Handegan. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorotha “Dottie” Handegan and one cousin, Sue Noel.
Surviving are his two cousins, Mike Noel of Peoria and Richard “Dick” Knowles of Arizona; several other cousins and many friends.
Sonny was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force.
He was of the Christian faith.
Previously working at Tazewell Human Services, Sonny found great fulfilment being a bus driver for Westminster Presbyterian Church in Peoria.
In his earlier years Sonny had a small business to repair radios, tube TVs, and other electronics. When his sister was in good health, Sonny would drive to Bloomington to spend time with her and try different restaurants they saw.
There will be no services at this time. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
