

Born December 13,1925 in Pekin to William Francis and Geneva (Rodgers) Merritt, she married John M. Avery on August 2, 1942 in Palmyra, Missouri. He survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sharon K. (Dr. David) Danner and Cindy A. (Randy) Kohtz, both of Pekin; one son, William G. (Launni) Avery of Hollywood, Florida; nine grandchildren, Dr. Michael (Julie) Danner of Pekin, Sarah (Michael) Masters of Normal, Matthew (Tammie) Avery of Peoria, Bryn (Tim) Hartman of Denver, Colorado, Mark (Amy) Avery of Princeville, Bryce Ford of San Diego, Calif., Brandon Kohtz of Carbondale, John Avery of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Josh Kohtz of Pekin; seven great-grandchildren, Abbie, Luke, Jacob, Will, Mikaela, Emily and Noah; and four sisters, Linda (Richard) Cook, Judy Merritt, Geraldine Buchanan, all of Pekin and Pat (Les) Blaylock of Mapleton.She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
Years ago, Loraine worked at the Photoggery in downtown Pekin. She also had waitressed at the Pekin Country Club and at the former Holiday Inn.
She enjoyed fishing and playing bingo.
She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Timothy Najpaver will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial of cremains will follow in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
