

PEKIN ~ Loretta Jean (Combs) Landis, 77, of Pekin, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012 in the emergency room at Pekin Hospital. She departed this life at the age of 77 years, 6 months, and 3 days.
She was born April 17, 1935 in Peoria to William and Ida L. (Herget) Combs.
She was united in marriage on June 2, 1956 to Daniel L. Parr, M.D. To this union were born, one son, Daniel L. (Holly) Parr, III of Tremont; and four daughters, Cathleen D. (Steve) Orr of Sheridan, WY, Stephanie L. (Gary) Barth of Pekin, Patricia A. Parr of Marquette Heights, and Judith L. (Bill) Johnson of North Pekin.
She later united in marriage on March 19, 2005 to Junior G. Landis. With this union she received Gary (Annette) Landis of Canton and Connie (Brent) Gregory of Brazil.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lauren E. Bale, Daniel L. Parr, IV, and Logan K. Parr, of Tremont, Oliver B. Barth, Andrew and Ashley Johnson of Pekin, Kristen DeRenzy, Keaton and Connor Landis, of Canton, and Micah and David Gregory of Brazil; one brother, Bill (Becky) Combs of Creve Coeur, and two sisters, Linda Wheeler of Creve Coeur and Judy Gay of Pekin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, David J. Combs and Frederick "Rick" Combs and two brother-in-laws, Sam Wheeler and John Gay.
Loretta made a profession of faith in Christ and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Creve Coeur at the age of 10.
She was a member of Emmanuel Community Church in Pekin, where she served as a board member and Sunday school teacher.
Loretta loved working in her flower gardens, feeding the birds and squirrels, fishing, and sewing. She was a St. Louis Cardinal's fan and also enjoyed attending the many events which her grandchildren were involved in. She was a homemaker and helpmate. Most of all, she loved her husband, children, and grandchildren and will be waiting for them in heaven.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Walter Greenleaf will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Tremont.
