I have finally found you. I have been searching and wondering about you. All those years. I still cherish memories of my best friend from childhood. Rest in peace, Michael.

I have thought of you often throughout the years. I considered you my best friend until you and your family moved away to Ohio in junior high. We would play outside for hours playing hide and seek, softball, etc. I have missed you, my friend. Rest in peace.

Christmas 2008, our third Christmas without you. We all miss you and think of you often.  Merry Christmas.

I miss you little brother.  I console myself by remembering that you aren't suffering anymore but I still wish you were here.  I love you.

On the 6 month anniversary and as we approach the Christmas holidays, I hope you know how much you were loved and how greatly you are missed.  The holidays will not be the same without you.  


My Wife and I really enjoyed working with him for all of our furniture purchases. We enjoyed our last purchase with  trying to decide with his help the color combination of the fabrics.

Yesterday was your birthday.  Uncle Doug and Claudia came into town to visit.  It was nice seeing them again.  I hope everything is going great up in heaven.  Mom is doing pretty good, she has been really strong through it all, I am sure you have been watching over her and grandma and grandpa, along with all of us.  We all really miss you and I think about you a lot.  I just wanted to say happy birthday and let you know that I was thinking about you and praying that your in heaven and everything is fine.  I know the last few months were really tough on you, and I am glad you were as strong as you were.  It really allowed for us all to say goodbye and spend the last few months really enjoying life.  The roadtrip was a memory I will have with me the rest of my life.  I miss you and love you.

My husband, Don and I knew Mike best through stories told to us by Doug and Claudia. We will continue to be touched and inspired by the courage, strength and love of the Gibbs family.

We were very saddened to learn of Mike's passing and our sympathy goes out to his family and friends.  We were fortunate to have met Mike, along with Helen and Dean, a few years ago here in Lincoln, Nebraska, at Doug and Claudia's wedding reception.  We had a very nice visit with Mike on Doug and Claudia's front porch and experienced first hand the warm and humorous manner which Doug and Claudia speak of so fondly.  To Mike's family, we hope that your many memories of a kind and loving son, brother, and uncle will sustain you at this time and in all the days ahead.  

I, too, was privileged to have met Mike at Doug and Claudia's wedding reception, however brief.  However, I feel like I got to know him through Doug's many stories about him before and after that time, and especially during the time of his illness.  Helen and Dean, our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time.  We promise to take good care of Doug and Claudia for you here in Lincoln. I consider myself lucky to have known Mike, if only briefly.  I met him at Doug and Claudias wedding, and spent a wonderful evening prior to the wedding in Doug and Claudias backyard talking to and listening to Mike, Dean and Helen.  I got see a wonderful family that was proud of their sons and all their children, and was privileged to meet Mike, who clearly was a wise and kind person.  I know he will greatly missed by all of you.  He will be missed here in Lincoln Nebraska as well.  My best to the family.  Bill Lock 

I worked with Mike at JCPenney and got to spend many slow afternoons down at the furniture desk talking about this and that. When I moved to Ohio,I continued to work for JCPenney so it was easy to call Mike on those slow afternoons. I would tell him how much I didn't like Ohio, especially noodles on mashed potatoes and he would always keep me laughing and updated on everyone at Northwoods.  I am glad that Mike took time to listen and was supportive. I will miss him. 

There were many adventures I have had at the Gibbs' home.  Mike's dry wit and good natured ribbing was a big part of it.  I'm sure Dean & Helen remember Mike informing them of Doug and my indiscrimination involving hiding the case of "Little Joes" in the cornfield behind their house in Cedar Rapids.  It was my pleasure to have known Mike and appreciated the close knit Gibbs family.  The tree planted in his honor will be a constant reminder of his life.  Dan

I often shared my coffee break with mike and enjoyed his sense of humor.Mike is missed at JC penney. I am very sorry for your loss.

I met Mike at Penney's.  My husband and I would sometimes take my parents to Peoria since they don't really drive out of Pekin any more.  My parents don't get around very well so, when we would go to Northwoods to shop, my mom and dad would sit in the furniture department at Penney's and wait for us.  For a while, my parents were there on a weekly basis.  When Mike had time, he would sit with my parents and visit with them.  It got to the point that my mom and dad made a special point of looking for him as soon as we got in the store.  I will always remember Mike for the kindness he showed my parents.  You have my sympathy.
