

Born February 6, 1922 in Hackensack, New Jersey to William Carl August and Stella Grace (Jansen) Goslar, she married James L. Pierce on September 1, 1947 in Peoria. He died March 12, 1993 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
Surviving are five sons, James R. (LaVon) Pierce of Corning, Arkansas, Rev. William E. "Bill" (Shirley) Pierce of Bartonville, Charles L. "Chuck" (Carolyn) Pierce of Groveland, Mark B. Pierce of East Peoria, and Carl M. "Matt" (Terri) Pierce of Greenville, South Carolina; three daughters, Carol Ann Kurtz of Creve Coeur, Debra Sue (Brian) Ashley of Piedmont, South Carolina, and Anna Marie (Phil) Busby of Beaverton, Oregon; twenty-five grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
A homemaker, Myrtle had worked as a waitress at the Mayor Hotel,Pantry and Central Restaurants, all in Peoria, and Steak n Shake in both Pekin and East Peoria.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Creve Coeur, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years, Awana leader, served on several ladies committees, and was a member of the Training Union.
Myrtle enjoyed flowers, walking, and canning.
She was a loving and faithful wife and mother and was faithful to the Lord for many years.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Ocotber 11, 2006at the First Baptist Church in Creve Coeur. The Rev. William Pierce, her son, and Rev. David Lynn will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
