Shawn Leslie Behrends

Born June 11, 1971 in Pekin, he was the son of Melvin John Behrends, Jr. and June Kay (Leslie) Behrends.

Surviving are his mother of Pekin; one sister, Stacey (Brian) Brienen of Pekin; his nieces and nephews, Joshua (Alyssa) Brienen of Pekin and Jayson (Rebecca) Brienen of Moab, Utah; his great nieces and nephews, Conner Brienen, Bryse Brienen, Case Brienen, Emersyn Brienen and Reed Brienen; his uncle, John (Janice) Leslie of Las Vegas, Nevada and an aunt, Jan Leslie of Tremont.

He was preceded in death by his father; his special aunt, Donna Greener and several other aunts and uncles.

He was a 1992 graduate of Morton High School.

Shawn worked for Pekin Country Club for nearly 30 years as a dishwasher, retiring in 2022.

In earlier years Shawn participated in Special Olympics and enjoyed swimming and bowling. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and also enjoyed watching tennis.

Family was important to Shawn. He loved his nephews and enjoyed special trips to see his uncle in Las Vegas. He also was especially fond of his uncle’s dogs.

Shawn was a member of Pekin Bible Church.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Chad Nightingale will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
