

Born February 21, 1963 in Pekin to Alan Reinhold and Patricia Louise (Shanahan) Johnson, he married Elizabeth Marie Herring on October 30, 1999 in Villa Park, Illinois. She survives.
Also surviving are his parents of Pekin; two sons, Nicholas (Janett) Johnson of Batavia, Nathaniel Johnson of Bloomingdale; one daughter, Hope Johnson of Pekin; one grandson, Tony; one granddaughter, Lillian; two sisters, Tammy (Gary) Schoenfeldt of Columbiana, Alabama, Taunya (Troy) Dowell of Morton; one brother, Trent (Nicole) Johnson of Pekin; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Wesley and Virginia Herring of Villa Park; one sister-in-law, Nancy Herring of West Roxbury, Massachusetts; two brothers-in-law, Wesley Herring of Crown Point, Indiana, Paul (Yvonne) Herring of Gurnee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a 1981 graduate of Pekin Community High School. From there, he went on to Southern Illinois University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree inAdministration ofJustice in 1985 and he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
Tyson was very proud of being a police officer helping others,and he retired as a Sergeant from the Villa Park Police Department in 2014 after 27 years.
He was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Villa Park.
Tyson was a member of the Illinois Police Association, past Exalted Ruler and member of Elmhurst Elks Lodge and was a past member of the Villa Park Masonic Lodge. He was also a retired member of Teamsters Local 700 in Park Ridge.
He enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed model trains, karaoke and genealogy, especially researching his family history.
His funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, with Father Michael Andrejek as the celebrant. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Additional visitation will befrom 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an educational fund FBOTyson Johnson at any CEFCU Member Center.
