Vada Laverne Owens-Brown

Born March 29, 1937 in Salt Lake Township in Mason County to Sherman and Lou Vada (Thompson) Forbis, she married Ronald Owens, Sr. in 1954. He died April 6, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one infant daughter, Deborah Owens; three brothers, Charles, Larry and Russell Forbis; one step-brother, Jim Fisher and two sisters-in-law, Julie Forbis and Cathy Forbis.

Surviving are two sons, Ronald “Skip” (Chris) Owens, Jr. and R. Scot (Christina) Owens, both of Pekin; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one step-sister, Linda McDonald and one sister-in-law, Sharon Forbis.

LaVerne owned and operated LaVerne’s Beauty Shop in Pekin from 1968 until it’s closing in 1995. She later worked at Sally’s Beauty Supply in Florida for nine years, retiring in 2004.

She enjoyed playing Blue Grass Music at the Miller Center in Pekin, playing bingo and spending quality time with her family. She also loved studying her Bible and fellowshipping with her church family.

LaVerne was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Groveland.

Her memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Groveland. Pastor Jonathan Chadbourn will officiate. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
