

Born January 23, 1947 in Peoria to William Wayne and Nora Adline Cox Garmon, she married Henry Allen Young on February 6, 1965 in Pekin.
Surviving are her husband; 1 daughter, Glenda (Tim) Young Manuel of Mansfield, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Alicia Manuel of Walker, Louisiana, Bridget Manuel of Denham Springs, Louisiana, and Kennedy Manuel of Mansfield; 3 great-grandchildren; and 6 brothers, Roy Leland Ewen, David Garmon, Ronnie (Patty) Garmon, and Terry (Dorothy) Garmon, all of Pekin, Larry (Brenda) Garmon of Tremont, and Ralph (Marilyn) Garmon of Ashland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 son, Henry A. Young, III; and 2 brothers.
A registered nurse, she received an associate degree at Illinois Central College and her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. Wanda was a nurse at Pekin Hospital from 1977-85. She then worked at Methodist Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas for 18 years, and last worked as a nursing instructor at Texas Tech University in Lubbock for 2 years.
She was a certified inpatient obstetric nurse and was a member of the Sigma-Theta-Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
Wanda was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Pekin, where she was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, greeter, young Christian mentor, and a member of the Prime Timers senior group. She also was active with the small group Bible study program at Bridgeway Community Church in Morton.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2007at First Church of the Nazarene in Pekin. The Rev. Dale Schaefer will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Private graveside services will be in Lakeside Cemetery with Rev. Lloyd Brock officiating.
