Addison was born on October 13, 1930, was raised in Hellertown, PA and earned his mechanical engineering degree from Penn State University. He married his high school sweetheart, Rosemarie Ansbach, served a tour in the US Air Force and he and Rosemarie settled in Windsor Locks, CT. Some years later, opportunity brought them to Brookfield CT where they raised their 5 children. Addison worked for many years as VP of Electronic Metal Finishing (EMF) Corp (Danbury, CT). When he was in his early sixties, he established Leading Edge Concepts Corp (Bethel, CT). With the help of loyal and devoted employees, LEC successfully supplied various aviation sources for decades with the critical metal (nickel) “leading edge” part for airplane propeller, helicopter and jet engine turbine blades.
Addison was a gifted athlete in virtually every sport that he played and he remained active, even riding his mountain bike well into his late 80s.
Addison enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, socializing over a good meal and cocktail, playing games - from cards to ping-pong - and traveling. He and Rosemarie were most comfortable when being together, and their favorite places to spend time included Westport, MA, Marco Island FL, and Lake George NY. Their favorite travel activities included ocean cruises and traveling all over the world, with safaris in Africa an oft-repeated favorite.
Addison was well known for his consistency in being cheerful and upbeat – so often closing an interaction with the challenge, and encouragement, to “make it a great day”. Addison will be dearly missed by so many. His family asks that he be remembered for his well lived life, his love for family and friends, for the joy he brought to others, and for his contributions to church, country, aviation, community and many charities.
Preceding Addison in death were his parents Addison Franklin Unangst Sr. and Mary Coleman Unangst (Hellertown, PA), his eldest child Kurt Daniel Unangst (formerly of California, MD), and the love of his life Rosemarie. Addison is survived by four of his children - Kathy Snyder (Chris) of Hoover, AL, Lisa Unangst of Hoover, AL, Todd Unangst (Angela) of Mammoth Lakes, CA, and Scott Unangst of Brookfield, CT; daughter-in-law Bitsy Unangst (Kurt, decd.); grandchildren - Kailey, Ross (Angela) and Bennett (Mallory) Snyder; Travis, Dan and Tim Unangst; and great granddaughters - Evelyn and Addison Snyder.
Addison’s family celebrates his life and legacy and will always hold him dearly in our memory. Those who would like to join the family in honoring his life, legacy and memory are invited to contribute in his name to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (www.T2T.org, 718-987-1931) or to a charity of their choosing.
