LACHMAN, ALEXANDER A., age 99, of Calera, Alabama died Monday, September 2, 2013. He was a native of Chicago, Illinois and lived in Miami, Florida for 18 years before retiring in Alabama. Alex enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 and was stationed in Hawaii on the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. He continued to serve in combat during World War II and the Korean War, and later became a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 668. In Calera, he was a member of the Sunshine Club and Calera Baptist Church. Alex was one of 12 children born to the late Anton Lachman and Julia Kokeny Lachman, and was predeceased by all of his siblings except one brother, Frank Lachman of Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Alex’s other survivors include many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great-nieces. The family will greet friends one hour before the 2 p.m. Celebration of Alex’s Life on Saturday, September 7, 2013 in the chapel of Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. Burial with military honors will follow in Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
