

Allen was born in Macon on July 24, 1947 to Eddie Burke and Kate Faircloth McCook. He graduated from Lanier High School in Macon and graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army, obtaining the rank of Captain. He earned his Masters in Business Administration from University of Tennessee in Chattanooga.
After meeting at age 9 when her family joined his church, Allen married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Scarbary, on September 10, 1967.
Allen worked as Vice President for General Telephone, retiring in 2000 to move back to Macon to help Margaret care for her father. He did not take well to his early retirement and began his second career as a retirement specialist with ValuTeachers. Allen and Margaret worked together in the business and made significant differences in the lives of so many teachers and others who worked in education roles.
Allen was an elder and Sunday School teacher at Wesleyan Drive Baptist Church in Macon and loved the congregation there wholeheartedly. He served as teaching leader of Men’s Bible Study Fellowship in Macon for 16 years. His passion for his Lord and Savior came through in everything he did.
Allen is survived by his children, Sheri Selkirk (Jim) and Matthew McCook (Lauren), and his grandchildren, Taylor Kate McCook, Luke Russell McCook, Daria Selkirk, James Selkirk and Reagan Grace Burke Selkirk.
There will be a private graveside service on Friday, February 21, 2025 in Birmingham.
Allen's family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Wesleyan Drive Baptist Church in Macon with a reception afterwards.
