Amir Landan Wilkerson, 19, of Alabaster, Alabama, passed away tragically on Monday, April 28, 2025. He was born on March 6, 2006, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Yolanda Wilkerson. He was Yolanda’s only child and the true “Sonshine” of her life.
Amir graduated from Thompson High School in 2024. With a passion for hands-on work and craftsmanship, he pursued and earned a degree in welding. He went on to work at Cooper Steel, where he took great pride in his work and built strong bonds with his colleagues.
Amir had a deep love for art and spent many hours drawing — expressing his creativity with talent and imagination. He also loved the game of basketball and was known for his smooth 3-point shot, which he rarely missed.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and cousins, especially at events and on family vacations. He was a happy soul — always laughing, joking, and lighting up every room he entered. He loved being the center of attention and brought joy to everyone around him.
Amir and his mother often shared long, heartfelt conversations about God and faith. He believed that God would guide him through life’s challenges, and that trust was a quiet strength he carried with him every day. His warm spirit, determination, and gentle heart will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Amir leaves to cherish his memory: His loving parents, Yolanda and Claude Quates of Alabaster; his devoted grandmother, Evelyn Clayton of Sumiton, Alabama; his aunts, Catherine May and Tamaya Clayton, both of Sumiton; his uncles, Danny (Joye) Clayton of Empire, Alabama, and Darrick (Prentella) Wilkerson of Adamsville, Alabama; and a host of cousins, extended family, and dear friends who loved him deeply.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening, May 6, 2025 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama from 6-8 p.m. A Service of Celebration for Amir's Life will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at the funeral home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124.
