Ann Pendleton Yates Gilliland passed away peacefully on June 13th, 2024. Ann was born in Orange, Virginia, April 26, 1935, the 8th of 11 children. She moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 1958 and met and married BB Yates, and had her only son, James Gary Yates in 1962.
After BB died, she married Earnest Gilliland, a longtime family and church friend. Ann was a tireless worker in the West End United Methodist Church and later Bluff Park United Methodist where she was involved in children's ministry, the UMW, Administrative Board and Trustees, and in her later years outreach to the congregation's shut ins. Caring for others was her lifelong goal.
She is survived by her brother, James Grant Pendleton (Doris) of Stephens City, Virginia, and sister, Bertha Krise of Orange, Virginia; her son, James Gary Yates of Pelham, Alabama.
The family will have a private graveside at Southern Heritage Cemetery on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, she asks for donations to Bluff Park United Methodist Church.
