

Billy Ray McLain, age 82 of Clanton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his beloved home on Lake Mitchell on May 24, 2019. He was born in Walker County, AL on May 3, 1937; the son of the late Cecil August McLain and the late Bertie Mae Studdard McLain.
He served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959 as a paratrooper in the 101st airborne division. He would go on to have a 30-year career with Golden Flake Snack Foods, where he retired as plant manager in their Nashville plant. He was a loving husband, father, and pawpaw to his grandchildren.
He is survived by: Wife of 62 years, Sandra K. McLain of Clanton; Son, Tommy (Leigh) McLain of Pleasant Grove; Daughter, Lisa Jo (Jeff) Lewallen of Hendersonville, TN; Grandchildren: Brandi (Dale) Hammond, Greg (Melanie) McLain, Amie Lewallen, Josh Lewallen, and Chris Lewallen; 12 Great Grandchildren; and Sisters: Shirley (Don) Hyche of Yakima, WA, Peggy Wright of Panama City, FL, Elizabeth McLain of Gulf Shores, Jane (Ronald) Loggins of Hayden, and Jean Strange of Smokerise.
He is preceded in death by: Son, Randy McLain; Parents, Cecil and Bertie McLain; Twin Sister, Betty Faye Vines; Sister, Geraldine Knobloch; and Brother, Johnny Ray McLain.
A memorial gathering will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 29 from 12:00-1:00 PM followed by a 1:00 chapel service, officiated by Victor Lewis. The graveside service will be held at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville, Alabama.
The family request memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or East Chilton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department at 5640 County Road 28, Clanton, Alabama 35046.
