

KITCHENS, CATHERINE J., age 89, passed away in Cary, North Carolina on Thursday evening, January 24, 2013. The Danielsville, Georgia native and former Birmingham, Alabama resident was cherished by her family and friends. She loved to cook and entertain in her home, and she told friends to visit at 7, 12 and 5 any day if they were hungry. A University of Georgia graduate, Catherine had a passion for her students' academic successes at Winder, East Atlanta, and Murphy high schools in Georgia. She taught home economics there for over 36 years. She and her husband, Lewis, were faithful members of North Decatur (Georgia) United Methodist Church and Asbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham. In addition to her husband, Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Beecher and Ollie Jenkins of Danielsville; sister, Margaret Yarbrough (Bud) of East Point, Georgia and Watkinsville, Georgia; and brother, Austin Jenkins (Florene) of Danielsville. Survivors include Catherine's daughter, Nancy McMeekin (Larry) of Birmingham and Morrisville, North Carolina; grandson, James Marshall (Ashley) of Chelsea, Alabama; granddaughter, Catherine Caudle (Chris) of Burbank, California; great-granddaughter, Laney Marshall of Chelsea; brothers, Ray Jenkins (Joyce) and Tyson Jenkins (Marie), all of Danielsville; sister-in-law, Florene Jenkins of Danielsville; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The 2 p.m. funeral will be the same day in Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. Burial: Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
