Charles William Mullins, 80, drifted peacefully into eternity Friday, April 24, 2020, surrounded by the love of his family. God provided supernatural peace and comfort and orchestrated the opportunity for a cherished moment on his final day with us. By the mercy of our precious Savior, he is fully healed and whole now.
Charles William Mullins is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy Campbell Mullins; his children, Jeffrey Mullins (Paula Weaver Mullins) and Susan Mullins Sellers (Jeremy Sellers); one sister, Mary Kathaleen Schena; grandchildren, Connor McCullum, Madeline Mullins, Matthew Mullins, and Eliza Mullins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph William Mullins and Hazel Porter Hebsacker; he grew up under the care of his loving grandmother, Annie Moates Porter.
Charles started his own company in the Commercial Door and Hardware industry 55 years ago (1965), and grew and maintained a very successful business to leave as his legacy. He held the title of Distinguished Architectural Hardware Consultant (DAHC). He was President for the Door and Hardware Institute of North America in 1982. He served as Associate President for the Associated General Contractors of Alabama in 2001 and was also on the Board of Directors for several years. In addition, he was a member of the Associated Builders & Contractors of Alabama.
He attended Auburn University, and his children and grandchildren followed in his footsteps. He continued to embrace his love and support for Auburn as a lifetime member of the Auburn Alumni Association and was passionate about Auburn Football and other Auburn sports through the years. He enjoyed the game of golf making a “hole in one” on two separate occasions. Spending time with his family and friends and walking daily with his yellow lab, Shadow, brought him so much joy.
A celebration of the life of Charles Mullins will be held at the Chapel at Church of the Highlands - Grants Mill Campus at a later date when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
In lieu of flowers, to honor his memory, donations can be made to Church of the Highlands (Legacy Offering for Local Missions) www.churchofthehighlands.com or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital www.stjude.org.
