Mr. West earned his undergraduate degree at Howard College, now Samford University. He was a life-long member of Hillview Baptist Church, where he was active for many years serving as a Deacon and working in the Children's Department.
Mr. West spent his life's work in the wholesale grocery business. He worked for the A&P Tea Company for many years and retired from Piggly Wiggly Alabama Distributing Co. in 1999.
Mr. West was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Joyce Miller West; his parents, Lillie Frances Shank West and Henry Walter West; and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Kellett Dinsmore (David) and Allison Ward (Russ); and grandchildren, Kathryn Dinsmore Marcum (Austin), Julianna Dinsmore, Hope Ward, and Seth Ward.
Mr. West enjoyed cooking for his family, nature, being outdoors, and serving others and his community. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He loved his country.
Most of all, Mr. West loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We will miss him so much.
The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2020 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Ala. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at the funeral home's chapel, and burial will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Dr. Randy Atkinson will officiate.
