David graduated from Northeast Lauderdale High School in Meridian and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving his country in the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge from the military, he ventured into a career of over 30 years in sales management.
In his leisure, David enjoyed watching Auburn Tigers Football, playing golf, bowling, dancing, camping, and lake life. He was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was active in the Western Country Club Dance Group. His church membership was at Jones Chapel Church of God.
David was predeceased by his parents; one sister, Cathy Marie Brogan; and two brothers, Doug and Jeff Carmichael.
Survivors include David's wife, Becky Waldrop Carmichael, to whom he was married on December 21, 1984 in Birmingham, Alabama. His remaining family also includes two daughters, Cathy Marie Carmichael Downing (Nathan) and Shellie Ware (Kevin); two grandchildren, Logan Hickman and Colin Downing; two sisters, Pam Byrnes (Patrick) and Patti Pena; one brother, Terry Carmichael (Kim); and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will greet friends from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL, immediately followed by A Service of Remembrance for David at 2 p.m. at the funeral home's chapel. Pastor Russell Rigsby will officiate. Later, the gravesite committal service and inurnment will be at Alabama National Cem., Montevallo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Lymphoma Foundation, the Myelodysplastic Syndromes Foundation, or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
