

David Lamar Cobb, 71, of Birmingham, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015. David was born on March 17, 1944 in Choccolocco, Alabama and resided for many years in Huntsville, Alabama, where he met and married his wife of 44 years, Watha. David and Watha moved to Birmingham in 2009.
David attended Jacksonville State, Auburn University, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in the Master of Science in Engineering. David served in the Alabama Army National Guard from 1967-1973. He worked in Aerospace Engineering for the Department of Defense in Systems Simulation and Development Directorate, U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Development and Engineering Center at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville. He retired in 2006 after 30 years of service with the Department of the Army.
Throughout his life David enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, creating everything from furniture to toys to decorative items. In retirement David enjoyed painting, spending time with his 6 grandchildren and other family members, and working in his garden. David was an active member of Willowbrook Baptist Church in Huntsville and then Asbury United Methodist Church after moving to Birmingham.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Ellen and Jot Cobb and sister, Carolyn Cobb McCareeth. Survivors include his wife Watha Waddell Cobb, daughter Lorie Cobb Dorn (Rick), son Daniel Lamar Cobb (Sarah), daughter Leah Cobb Headrick (Jeremiah), sister Loretta Cobb Bonner, and 6 grandchildren: Alden Dorn, Lucy Dorn, Hannah Cobb, Julianne Cobb, Lilia Headrick and Arabelle Headrick.
The celebration of David’s life will be at 12 noon on Monday, November 30, 2015 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL, with visitation beginning at 10 am. The graveside service will be at 2:30 pm at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Cemetery in Anniston, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family graciously asks that memorials be directed to the American Diabetes Association P.O. Box 11454 Alexandria, VA 22312.
