Diana was born to LTC Eugene Darrell and Shirley Mae Skaggs on April 25, 1958 in Augsburg, Germany.
She attended both Auburn University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham and graduated, with honors, from the School of Community and Allied Health - Division of Physical Therapy in 1981. Her 25 year career in healthcare included employment at Brookwood Medical Center and various other rehabilitation facilities with a specialty in the field of geriatrics.
Diana is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Gregg Waycaster and together they have one son, Dr. Garrett Waycaster (Lauren) of Birmingham, and their daughter Corrin Lee who was absolutely the joy of Diana’s (GiGi’s) life. Other surviving family members are her sister Linda Farris (Jim) of Montevallo, her brother David Skaggs (Terri) of Houston, Texas, and her step-mother Jean Skaggs of Birmingham.
Diana and Gregg were charter members of CrossBridge Church where Diana was very active and her greatest joy was teaching Sunday School for the 3 and 4 year old's which she did for many years. Diana was a very passionate member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) and made many life-long friends over her 15 year association. Diana is known for her infectious joy, her caring attitude and her love of worship. She never met a stranger and genuinely cared for anyone in need. She always had an unwavering faith in God, which she freely shared with those who surrounded her.
Friends and family will celebrate Diana’s life at CrossBridge Church (3039 Brook Highland Parkway, Birmingham, AL) on Thursday, September 29th with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. with the service following at 11:00 a.m.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
