Elizabeth Battle Dunnaway, age 83, of Pelham, AL passed away peacefully at her home, as she had wished surrounded by her friends and family on January 24, 2020. She was born on June 16, 1936 to Louis and Beatrice Battle in Montevallo, AL. Elizabeth was a graduate of Montevallo High School. She was a beloved mother who will be greatly missed. In her prime she was an amazing cook and had a "green" thumb. Elizabeth loved sports especially Alabama Football and the Atlanta Braves.
She is preceded in death by her parents Louis and Beatrice Battle, her loving husband Frank E. Dunnaway; brothers, James, Edward, P.D., Russel and Jack Battle; sister, Vera L. Strickland. Elizabeth leaves behind to cherish her memory; daughter, Katherine Steele Heer (Obye); sons, Kenneth Steele (Dr. Sherry Brown), Robert H. Steele (Patricia) and John P. Steele (Gloria); brothers, Ralph and John M. Battle; 7 grandchildren, Sabrinia Wren (Mathew-deceased), Courtney Boehm (Joshua), Stacy Gunnoe (Andrew), Andrew Steele (Oliva), April Heer, Ashley Steele, John Paul Steele, Jr.; 5 great-grandchildren, Eli Wren, Violet Wren, Katherine V. Gunnoe, Avery J. Gunnoe, and Declan Boehm.
In honor of her beloved dog,"Tiny" the family ask donations to be made to the humane society to rescue other fur friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 30, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at 12:30 p.m. at Bryan Memorial Presbyterian Cemetery.
