MICHAELS, FRANK H., age 85, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Of Birmingham, Alabama and long-time resident of St. Louis, Missouri. Preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Myerna Michaels. Beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend. We are proud and grateful that he is a part of who we are, what we become, and the way we serve God with our lives.
A member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Mr. Michaels graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in Engineering. He loved his country, serving in the U.S. Navy with Honors, testing missiles in White Sands, New Mexico. He mastered several careers at Monsanto and The City of Kirkwood (Missouri) before running Plant Operations at Sunnen in St. Louis. He was active in Town & Country's City Council and the National Society of Professional Engineers. After retiring from Sunnen, he enjoyed time with his family, reading and woodworking; and held a keen interest in historical literature and science. When his daughters and their families moved from St. Louis, he and Myerna decided to follow their grandchildren to Birmingham. Next to dedication to his family, he enjoyed his companion animals. He and his dog Sparkie were loved residents of The Town of Mt Laurel in Birmingham.
Mr. Michaels is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Jim) Weidenbaum of Portland, Oregon and Laura (John) Graham of Birmingham; grandchildren, Andrew, Brian and Kevin Weidenbaum, Jennifer (Tony) Graham Culberson, and Leslie, James, Jared, and Jack Graham; and nephews, David (Betty), Gary (Anita), and Rick (Mariann) Nichols.
Special thanks to Mary Ayers for adopting Sparkie.
Special thanks to the medical team at UAB Hospital and staff at BrightStar Healthcare who provided the professional and compassionate care our dad needed.
Special thanks to Betty Hill, Sadie Sams, and April Wilbanks of BrightStar Healthcare.
The family will receive friends at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 with a service in Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham at 12 noon. The committal service will be 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Briarwood Presbyterian Church, 2200 Briarwood Way, Birmingham, AL 35243.
