

He was preceded in death by his parents: George E. Scott, Jr and Jim and Juanita Ridge; children: Jeffrey M. Scott & Dr. Michelle "Missy" Scott Johnson; and grandson, Daniel Scott(infant).
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Peggy Jones Scott; stepmother: Issa Scott; sisters: Susan Scott Wilborn(Barney), Sally Scott Allbritton(Rick); children: George E. Scott, IV(Judy), J. Michael Scott(Leigh Ann); grandchildren: Ashleigh Scott Coulter, Elizabeth Scott Guarnieri (Dan), Christopher R. Luehmann(Mandy), Anna Scott Khanduja(Prakhar), Matthew Scott, Katie Scott Gibbons(Jonathan), Noah Scott, Jacob Johnson; Great grandchildren: Emmery Scott, Landon Coulter, Will Luehmann; beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
George was born in Tuscumbia, AL on December 21, 1936. He grew up in the Eastlake neighborhood of Birmingham, AL attending Barrett Elementary and Woodlawn High School. He graduated in 1959 from Alabama Polytechnic Institute with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.
He was the owner and president of Scott Machinery & Supply Inc. for over 50 years. He was an active member and leader of The Machinery Dealers National Association, The European Association of Machine Tool Merchants and trustee of the Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Fund.
George loved being a leader in many United Methodist Churches, Lay Witness Ministry, Urban Ministry, Alabama Emmaus, Kairos Prison Ministry, Camp Sumatanga, Disciple Bible Study Programs and a passionate Sunday School teacher. He was a member of Helena United Methodist Church since 1994.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to Camp Sumatanga(sumatanga.org), Urban Ministries(urban-ministry.org) or The Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Fund(mdna.org).
A Celebration of Life will be held at Helena United Methodist Church January 16, 2023 at 11:00am with visitation at 10:00am.
