Grady was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, where he enjoyed a vibrant and active youth—often swimming and spending time at the Cascade Plunge. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving aboard an aircraft carrier until the end of World War II.
While stationed in San Francisco, California, Grady met the love of his life, Leta. Their connection was instant, and they married just days after his discharge. They shared a beautiful and devoted marriage that spanned 77 years until Leta’s passing in 2023.
Grady and Leta were blessed with three children: Mike, who resides in Tampa, and their beloved daughters, Patricia and Lois, both now deceased.
Grady began his professional career with the phone company in Birmingham and later transferred to Orlando, Florida, in 1952. Determined to further his education, he completed his degree at Rollins College through night classes. In 1965, he left the phone company to follow a higher calling and enrolled at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia.
Following his ordination, Grady served in several PCA churches throughout the South before being called to the mission field. He dedicated himself to missionary work in Liberia, ministering in remote villages and helping to establish places of worship. He later continued similar work in Kenya.
Upon returning to the U.S., Grady continued his service with the PCA, working to plant and nurture church families in underserved areas. Among these was Evangel Presbyterian Church, where he dedicated over 40 years of faithful service, helping to grow and strengthen the church community.
Grady and Leta loved the Lord deeply and lived their lives as a testament to His grace and love. Their legacy of faith, service, and dedication to God's work continues to inspire all who knew them.
Grady was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
