Howard Jones

Howard Jones, a gospel preacher, former high school math teacher, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed on from this life on February 14, 2023 at the age of 72. Howard battled Lewy body dementia for over 20 years and has finally finished his race and now resides with his Creator. Howard’s legacy includes his wife of 50 years, Cindy Jones; his son Adam Jones (wife, Carla, and children; Grant, Natalie, and Alyse), son Timothy Jones (wife, Maryanna, and child; Riley), daughter Meghann Blankenship (husband, Jeff, and children; Jackson, Brooklyn, and Anderson), and daughter Marissa Jones.

Born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, Howard attended Lee High School and went on to graduate from Auburn University with a degree in aerospace engineering. He met his wife while attending Auburn and married his bride on June 16th, 1973. Howard and Cindy moved to Tampa, Florida, where he taught physics and engineering drawing at Florida College and preached for the Eureka Springs congregation. In 1975 they moved to Fredericktown, Ohio, where he began preaching full time and started a family. In 1985 the Jones family moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where Howard continued to preach full time while also working on his master’s degree in mathematics and began teaching high school math. Howard’s greatest relationship was with the Lord. His faith defined him, and it influenced every relationship in his life. Due to the disease, Howard finally retired from Hoover High School in 2005, and continued preaching until 2013. While on this earth, Howard was an exemplary husband and father. His devotion to God, to his wife, and to his children allowed him to demonstrate the kind of life Christ calls us to live. Howard exhibited a wisdom that only comes from knowing God. His love for Christ influenced his love for his wife. Being a child of God, Howard knew how to be the best father to his own children. The lives of his friends and neighbors, his fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, and his family are all richer for having had the privilege of knowing Howard.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life, which will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home (Pelham, AL). Visitation will be on Friday February 17, 2023, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Visitation will also be on Saturday February 18, 2023, from 1:30pm to 2:30pm with the service following at 2:30pm.
