Howard served for three years in the U.S. Navy, during which he was aboard the U.S.S. Shenandoah. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gardendale, AL, and was a devoted man of God.
Howard was predeceased by his father, George Milton Rainey, and one nephew, Jesse Rainey.
Survivors include Howard's wife, Jannette Howell Rainey; his mother, Emogene Rainey; one son, Matthew Rainey (Audra Stewart); one grandson, Randall Alexander Rainey; two brothers, Bob Rainey (Celia) and Brian Rainey (Betty Durbin); aunt, Laura Lindsey; and nephews, Kevin Rainey, Jeff Rainey, and Austin Rainey.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018, immediately followed by A Celebration of Howard's Life at 12:30 in the funeral home's chapel. The gravesite committal service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to First Baptist Church of Gardendale, Alabama.
