

Hugh graduated from Central High School in Jackson, Mississippi and earned the Bachelor of Science Degree from Tulane University. His professional career spanned several years as a geologist in the petroleum industry, where he worked for Creole Petroleum Corporation, Exxon, Seismograph Services Corporation, and Arabian Oil Corporation. He had numerous interesting experiences while working in different countries throughout the world, such as Venezuela, Argentina, Libya, Egypt, and others.
Hugh was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and Sigma Gamma Epsilon. His favorite pastimes included solving jigsaw puzzles, handyman work, collecting and reading books, walking, and enjoying the outdoors.
He was predeceased by his parents, Hugh Wilson Patrick and Cumi Brown Patrick, and three sisters, Rose Patrick Johnson, Joyce Patrick Langford, and Joan Patrick Proctor.
Survivors include Hugh's two daughters, Joyce Margarita Pinkard (Shane Jeffrey Pinkard) and Astrid Annette Freeman (Mark Jay Freeman); grandchildren, David J. Freeman (Miranda J. Freeman), Ariana Maria Freeman, Alexandra Marie Freeman, Rebecca Margarita Pinkard, and Patrick Jeffrey Pinkard (Paige Victoria Pinkard); and great-grandchildren, Joseph Matthew Freeman, Ethan Jay Freeman, Owen Jacob Freeman, Grant Jeffrey Pinkard, and Breck Victoria Pinkard.
Hugh's family and friends will gather for the visitation and memorial service on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The visitation will be from 12 noon until 1 p.m., and will be followed by A Memorial Celebration of Hugh's Life at 1 p.m.
On Thursday, April 6, 2023, family will gather at Booneville Cemetery in Booneville, Mississippi for the gravesite committal.
