An employee of South Central Bell in Birmingham for 35 years, Imogene worked as an Accounting Assistant. She was a woman of deep faith and a lifelong member of Rocky Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School for decades.
Imogene was a talented artisan. Before losing her sight to macular degeneration, she mastered the arts of ceramics and crochet. Her hands were rarely still, and her legacy of love lives on in the thousands of blankets she crocheted for veterans, the elderly, and stillborn babies through the Blanket Ministry at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church in Roswell, Georgia.
Even in her final days, Imogene’s sharp mind and selfless spirit remained intact. She was always more concerned about the wellbeing of others than herself. Her kindness, strength, and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.
GG, as she was known to her family, will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and servant of God. Her life was one of quiet strength, enduring love, and generous service. Imogene was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 59 years, W. Bonard White, and by her son, David Alan White. She is survived by her grandchildren—Anna White Howard (Andrew), David Alexander White II (Megan), and James Bonner White—her great-grandchildren, David Andrew Howard, Kate Montgomery Howard, Braylyn Justine White, Brooks Reid White, and James Alexander White; a daughter-in-law, Martha Johns; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on July 26, 2025 at Rocky Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Rocky Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
