
Jack I. Gillespie, age 94, of Pelham, Alabama passed away peacefully at his home, on Sunday, March 14, 2021. He was born in Haleyville, Alabama on August 5, 1926. Jack graduated from High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy as a Carpenter's mate 3rd class. He worked for U.S. Steele for 36 years and Southern Railway for two years. He was married to his loving wife of 65 years, Johnilea (Liddell) Gillespie. He was a member of Shades Mountain Community Church and had a passion for raising his 3 sons. Jack and Johnilea served as Sunday school teachers for 3-4 year old children for more than 20 years. He was also a member of the NRA and a prolific donator to many Organizations. He had a special interest in anything related to the Railroad and he enjoyed steam and rail excursions. Jack will be remembered for being kind and generous and his Christian outlook on life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles R. Gillespie and Ora Johnson Gillespie.
Jack was survived by his three sons, Michael (Denise) Gillespie of Pelham, AL, Jack (Kelly) Gillespie, Jr. of Birmingham, AL, and David Gillespie of Verbena, AL; Granddaughter, Morgan (Reagan) Goodson of Birmingham, AL; Sister-In-Law, Pat Gillespie or Birmingham, AL; numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Southern Heritage Cemetery on Friday, March 19 at 12:00 p.m.
