Mr. Cox is preceded in death by his parents, James E. Cox, Sr. and Orpha Cain Cox; sisters, Myrtle Morgan, Dorcas Partridge, Stella Townley and Gracie M. Cox; brother, Franklin Cox; and two grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Nora L. Cox; sons, Douglas R. Cox (Bettye) and Roger D. Cox (Teresa); daughter, Gail Taylor (Mitchell); brother, Charles Cox (Donna); sisters, Evelyn Jones, Mayo McCombs (Paul), Daisy Pilkington (Ronny), Lilly Phillips (Jim) and Jean Collum (Jack); ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
The celebration of Mr. Cox’s life will be at 12pm on Friday, September 5, 2014 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, with burial following at Kendrick Cemetery off of Hwy 41 (Dunnavant Rd). The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
