James graduated from Thompson High School in 1954 and served as class president. After serving 2 years in the U.S. Army as a cryptographer in Tokyo, Japan, he was offered a football scholarship to Georgia Tech by Coach Bobby Dodd. James received a degree in Industrial Management in 1961.
James is preceded in death by his parents, James O. Sides and Voncille B. Sides, a sister, Jeannine S. Nunnally and brother, Randy Sides.He leaves to cherish his memory a wife of 61 years, Marion D. Sides; four daughters, Andrea Burk (Dan), Kim Hamm (Aaron), Michelle Colburn (Kirk) and Allison Clyburn (Mark); four grandsons, four granddaughters, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 5-7 P.M. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 10 A.M. at the Helena City Cemetery.
