James William (Bill) Wright (88) of Helena passed away on Sunday October 11, 2020. Bill was retired from AT&T having spent 30 plus years in service to that company. After retirement he worked for Down South Real Estate for several years. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served aboard Neptune patrol planes from 1951 to 1954. He was active at Pelham Church of God and was the long time Sunday School Superintendent and teacher of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. More recently he was a member of the Alabaster Church of God.
Mr. Wright was a proud graduate of the University of Mississippi and held a degree in Electrical Engineering from that institution. In the 1960s, 70s and 80s he was active as a judge of pageants on the Miss America affiliated pageant circuits. In his youth he was an avid duck hunter, scuba diver and all around outdoorsman. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Susan Martin Wright, his father, Ezra Brooks Wright; his Mother, Ruby Lee (Keel) Wright and his sisters, Evelyn Wright Tigrett and Jean Wright Martin. He is survived by his daughters, Alison Dorsett (Ken) and Tara Folmar (Pete); grandchildren, Andrew, Hannah, Olivia and Ben Marling, Elijah and Ethan Folmar, Madlyn Dorsett. Also survived by his niece, Martha Jean Alford (Bill); grandnephew, Brooks Alford and nephew, Don Martin (Linda) and a host of professional friends and colleagues and church family.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Mrs. Dorothy Avery who was not only a caregiver to Mr. and Mrs. Wright but a wonderful friend who truly has been a part of their family for over 23 years.
