Joe William Slaughter, Jr., 93, of Collinsville, AL, passed away Thursday evening, August 21, 2014. He was born in and lived in the Birmingham, AL area most of his life.
After retiring from Eastern Airlines, the U.S. Navy Veteran moved to Talladega, AL. He lived there about 20 years before residing in Collinsville.
“Gee-Gee” was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Skelton Slaughter. Survivors include two sons, Joe William III and his wife Nita Kay, and Robert Royce “Butch” and his wife Christy; one daughter, Patti Jean Oliver and her husband Scot; six grandchildren, Joshua R. Slaughter, Patrick Sean Slaughter, B. Andrew Slaughter, Paula A. Oliver, Michele McDonald, and Jennifer Elrod; five great-grandchildren, Layla Mae Slaughter, Caleigh McElroy, Morgan McElroy, Arleigh Logan, and Shaun McDonald; and two brothers, Fred H. Slaughter and Paul G. Slaughter.
Visitation will be one hour before the 6 p.m. Celebration of Joe’s Life on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL.
The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 25, 2014 at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Casual, brightly colorful clothing is encouraged in honor and memory of Joe.
