Joe Stewart, 84 of Maylene, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015. Mr. Stewart was the Principal Chief Emeritus of the Echota Cherokee Tribe of Alabama. He is the former police chief for the city of Vestavia Hills, and was a US Air Force Korean War Veteran.
Mr. Stewart is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Mack Stewart, Sr. and Blanche Lottie Tanner; brother, Charles Mack Stewart, Jr.; sister, Mildred Snipes; and grandchild, Tracey H. Davis. He is survived by his sons, Daniel Stewart (Edna) and David Stewart (Sandra); grandchild, Jennifer Stewart Boyle (Shane); and great grandchildren, Michelle Davis, Isabella Boyle, Blake Boyle and Carter Boyle.
The graveside celebration of Mr. Stewart’s life will be at 2pm on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Southern Heritage Cemetery.
