John worked as a critical care nurse at UAB Hospital, Birmingham for 40 years until his retirement. He remained active in retirement as a volunteer at UAB, and was an avid cyclist. He was a good friend and co-worker to many and will be dearly missed.
John was predeceased by his father and mother, Dr. Paul Bennett, MD, and Dr. Ruth Bennett, MD. Survivors include John’s son, John B. Bennett; one sister, Barbara Carter and her husband Jim; and three brothers, Dr. Joseph Bennett, MD and his wife Judy, Dr. Robert Bennett, MD and his wife Becky, and Dr. William Bennett, OD and his wife Sue.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL, immediately followed by A Celebration of John’s Life at 11 a.m. at the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Dr. Gary Fenton will officiate.
A memorial service for John Edward Bennett will be at 3 p.m. on Monday, November 19, 2018 at UAB Hospital, Birmingham in the Interfaith Chapel on 1st Floor, West Pavillion.
