John Martens of Helena, AL went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 7, 2015 at the age of 84. John is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marilyn; daughters, Joni (David) Talley, Judi (Kevin) Moore, and Jenni (Bob) Boerner; grandchildren, Amanda, Andrew, Josh, (Cassie), Jeremy, Josiah, Jesse, Robert, John and William. John is preceded in death by his daughter, Joni Kay Martens. He was a gracious and honorable man, an active member of shades Mountain Independent Church for 43 years, ministering as a former elder and Sunday school teacher. After serving in the US Army and the US Army Reserves, John worked (and retired) as a salesman. He was a faithful husband, loving father and a Godly man. Family will receive friends on Monday, July 13th from 9:30-10:30 at Shades Mountain Independent Church with the Celebration of Life Service starting at 10:30. Burial will follow at the Alabama National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Shades Mountain Independent Missions Fund.
