

John G. Reamer, Jr. passed away peacefully in his home on March 30, 2025, after a brief illness. The son of John Gordon Reamer, Sr. and Eleanor Yarbrough Reamer, he was born in Rome, Georgia on July 16, 1954. His family moved to Birmingham where he graduated from Berry High School in 1972. He enjoyed spending time with his classmates and serving on many reunion committees. From there he went on to graduate from Auburn University with a degree in mechanical Engineering. He continued to support Auburn Athletics throughout his life.
John was very successful in his professional life as a design engineer with ACIPCO when he discovered his true calling was real estate. With mentorship from local developer Al Awtrey, he began a career that spanned over four decades and included agent, broker, home builder and general contractor licenses. John played a role in developing over twelve residential subdivisions in Alabama and Florida. Independently, he built over a thousand homes in the Birmingham area and in 2001 the largest swimming pool in the state of Alabama at Waterford subdivision in Calera. During his career he was the qualifying broker for his own real estate company and owned a design business that catered to new home construction. He earned his multiple engine pilot's license and his maritime captain's license. He thoroughly enjoyed sailing, boating and spending time at the beach.
John is survived by his three children, John G. Reamer III, Hope Lana Reamer, William J. Reamer, and by his siblings Janet Reamer McClain (Mike), Curt Reamer (Karen). He is also survived by his former wife of thirty years and mother of his children, Mitzi Reamer, his five nieces and nephews, and his girlfriend, Susie Graves.
In addition to his family, John had a true love for animals and had ten dogs and several cats that were his close companions over the years. He had a true love for all animals and often came to the rescue of animals in need throughout his life. John was proud of his recent appointment to the Board of Kitty Kat Haven and Rescue in Hoover. He admired the selfless dedication of the volunteers and would ask that in his memory donations be made to their exceptional organization in lieu of flowers.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 27, 2025 from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm with a service to follow in the chapel Southern Heritage Funeral Home. There will be a private graveside for the family.
