Jo was born on December 22, 1927, in Semmes, Alabama, the tenth child of eleven children of Walter W. and Mattie Powell Lee. On March 8, 1952, she married Morton H. Bryant, known as Sonny, her husband of 54 years. A year later one February 9, 1953, they were blessed with their daughter, Cynthia Marie Bryant.
Jo, a life long Auburn season tickets holder, rarely met an Auburn fan she didn't like. Not so much for Alabama fans, and especially Alabama coaches! That was just how Jo was! She had an affinity for cooking and hers was always the best! All you had to do was ask her. That was especially true for her Thanksgiving dressing. Jo had a big family on both sides. Although much of her family was not in Birmingham she made a point to see them often. Jo's house was a stopping point for family and friends on any trip through Birmingham. Two relatives dropped in unannounced one Thanksgiving knowing full well they would be welcome. Her house was always an open door except during an Auburn football game! She also love the Lord and her church. Jo was a lifelong member of Dawson Baptist Church and a faithful member of the Faith Sunday School class. Jo enjoyed life and made everyone who crossed her path feel welcome. She was a true southern lady!
Jo was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband; brothers, Claude Lee and Johnny Lee; sisters, Bessie Corley, Willie Lee, Ethel Stringer, Eula Mae Melton, Gertrude Johnson, Roselle Twilley, and Barbara Jean Pfister.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (Bill Tillman; her five grandchildren, Stacey (Kelvin) Suttles, Scott (Shannon) Tillman, Jenny (Payton) Ely, Bryant (Tanna) Tillman, and Lindsey Tillman; and six great-grandchildren: Brandon, Kaitlyn, and Preston Suttles; Molly and Zach Tillman; and Charlsie Ely.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 30th, 2020, at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, Alabama 35124.
